San Ramón is a pleasant small town about halfway between the capital San José and Puntarenas, just off the Carretera Interamericana that joins San José with the Pacific coast.

San Ramón is a clear, green and secure area and offers a lot of activities like sightseeing to the museum and to the beautiful church. The museum has interesting exhibits of local history and culture. In San Ramón you find also the University of Costa Rica.
San Ramón is known locally as the city of presidents and poets because several of them were born or lived here.


Life is running slowly in this part of the world and you can relax and enjoy. Visit the central market, the weekly market, the park in the center of San Ramón and watch the people talking in the street and hear the loudspeakers from a passing car announcing good shopping offers or activities for the next weekend. There is no hurry.


You find around San Ramón big waterfalls, bungee jumping, canopy tours, hiking in rainforest, bird watching, and horseback riding, tours with mountain bikes and a beautiful Spa. From this central position you can travel very easily to most of the volcanoes or beaches. Near San Ramón you can visit the Reservado Alberto Manuel Brenes, a large area with an incredible variety of fauna y flora.

San Ramon (pop. ~60,000) is one of the larger Central Valley coffee towns set in a picturesque valley enclosed by lush and fertile mountains. It is centrally located on the Pan American Highway an easy 45-minute drive from San Jose's International Airport, one hour from the Central Pacific beaches, and 1 1/2 hours from Volcano Arenal. The mountain towns of the Costa Rican Central Valley are known for their wonderful climate, hailed by National Geographic as "the best climate in the world." San Ramon, with its picturesque mountain setting and average year-round temperature in the mid-70sF (25 degrees C), epitomizes the Central Valley mountain towns, which include Grecia, Atenas, Naranjo, and nearby Palmares.

Real Estate: While homes in the US are going down in value, their homes in San Ramon continue to appreciate significantly. Real estate taxes are negligible and most people own their homes outright with no mortgages.
